Question 1

Which egg size is the best value per gram?

Accepted Answer

Compare the price per gram of egg without the shell, not the pack price per gram. Smaller eggs carry a larger share of shell, so a pack that looks cheaper per gram can cost more per gram of egg you eat. The free Egg Price tool at https://tool.adjiebrotots.com/eggprice/ works it out for any pack sizes and prices.

Question 2

How much of an egg's weight is shell?

Accepted Answer

Roughly 9 to 12 percent. The shell is about the same thickness on every egg, so its weight follows the egg's surface area while the egg's weight follows its volume. A 42 g egg is about 11 percent shell and a 67 g egg about 9.5 percent.
